re: Monsters of The Rock Information Thread

Monsters of The Rock is a Crickhollow event where Lotro bands play 55 minute sets, consisting of songs all from the same real band.  Bands that have played a "Monsters of Rock" concert at any point in time would be best, but any band that is considered Hard Rock, any Metal, or Industrial will be fine.

I don't like rules, so here's some "guidelines".  I can't call myself an Event Organizer if I don't do any "organizing".

I have decided to hold MoTR earlier in the day than last year, starting at 2pm eastern, and ending at 12.  If more than 10 bands apply, I will split the bands between Saturday and Sunday, keeping the Saturday start time, shortening the night.
Saturday, February 25th will still remain the Main date, Sunday is only an alternate if there is band overflow.  If you can only play Saturday, you will be able to put that in the application.

I will post the application thread sometime on Saturday, Jan 14th, and close the thread on Saturday, Jan 28th.

I will accept applications on a First-Come-First-Serve basis regarding which bands everyone wishes to cover, so that there aren't two bands both playing an hour of Anthrax (lol), with the following exception:

Bands may perform songs from the very same band that they covered previously, however, I will be biased towards any other band that signs up and wishes to cover that same band's songs.

I want this to be fair to all bands.  I will add a line for a Secondary Choice, a Plan B so to speak, and will inform any bands that may have to switch cover bands before I make the schedule.

Some bands are more obscure, with far less of a chance of being covered, but other bands are very popular among many Lotro bands, so take that into consideration.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, for your consideration, after having talked with a few band leaders over the last year, I have decided to also Organize a second event called Little Monsters, which would involve 25 minute sets instead of 55, and I'll also allow for multiple Lotro bands to choose to cover the same real band.  While I don't expect 20 bands to apply for this one, there's room for it, and it makes it easier for more bands to find a single real band with enough songs to do a whole set.

I'll look ahead and see what dates are open, but in either May or possibly
even October.  Little Monsters screaming in October doesn't sound so bad...

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post them here, or through various other means if you wish.

And thanks for everyone's interest!  Otherwise I'd have had to play an hour of Judas Priest last year all by myself.  I'm so looking forward to seeing what everyone has planned, which groups they'll pick to cover, and which songs I've never heard anyone play in Lotro ever.  You all rock!  \m/O.o\m/

I like the idea of having short sets as well.  We wondered about playing the same band cover this year as last year.  Then there was the issue of what if someone else wants to do it?  This pretty much solves that problem.

Heck yeah, looking forward to this! :D \m/

Not sure if this is an appropriate place to ask but I'd like to call dibs on Slipknot (they headlined at Monsters of Rock in Brazil 2013). :3

Mithrillica is looking to return to Monsters with another set of Metallica, but if there are other bands out there that want to play Metallica, we have no problem stepping aside. I have an hour's worth of music from many metal and hard rock bands, so I hope we can get more bands to sign up this year. Also, I think giving other bands a chance to cover a band that was covered by another band the previous year makes it easier for everyone to find enough songs. image
