THE ALEFORD BAND

What's the story behind your band's founding?

This is the second incarnation of The Aleford Band. The original band comprised the whole Aleford family - Ardo (Father), Gentian (Mother), Chord (Son), Gennetta and Allegretta (Daughters) along with another hobbit called Tommo Rubbins. The band toured all over Eriador from Forochel to Galtrev. Though quite young at the time the children were all skilled musicians having been taught their art by Ardo who now teaches other minstrels in Michel Delving. The band ceased playing after Gentian, Chord and Tommo died in tragic circumstances returning from a fair in Gwingris. The Sisters then settled down in the homestead of Oldfurlong and started performing as a duo in the Shire and Bree. They later became part of The Traveling Bilberries but have since left to pursue their love of music and song with Toolee Twitchtoes, recreating The Aleford Band as a trio. It is now also becoming more common to see them perform concerts with a guest musician.

How did your band get its name?

Aleford is our family name (see above).

How did your members meet one another?

We met up with Toolee whilst in The Traveling Bilberries but she is also one of our neighbours in Oldfurlong.

How would you describe your band's music?

The Aleford Band play an eclectic mix of musical genres in which the only stipulation is that the tune has to be good and entertaining. Ballads, jigs and reels, rock, classical and pop tunes all appear in their repertoire.

How do you decide which songs to play?

Gennetta arranges all the band’s music & selects the set lists to suit each particular concert.

Do you have a signature song?

We seem to have become well known for songs on the subject of birds, of which we now have several.

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

Our performance for The Oldfurlong Amazin Koncert Series, (see link below).

Do you have any stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

Plenty but none of them relate to the Aleford Band.

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

No, not at present.

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed, Youtube channel, or links to any performances?

Our website - http://thealefordband.weebly.com/

Winterstock III concert - https://www.twitch.tv/barafunda/v/36546893

OAKS Part 1 - https://www.twitch.tv/barafunda/v/49908611

OAKS Part 2 - https://www.twitch.tv/barafunda/v/49909670

Our thanks to Master Zedrock & Zygg for the moving pictures.

What's the one thing we should know about your band above all else?

When you attend an Aleford gig be prepared for variety, and have tissues at the ready. Our aim is to make the audience feel the music, so we are content if they cry with laughter or sadness.

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your group?

Only that we hope you enjoy what we do as much as we do.

re: Updated Band Interview for Lag Spike

0

What's the story behind your band's founding? How did your band get its name?

Lag Spike began in the middle of a Draigoch raid, when Draigoch had long since become routine. Suddenly, someone on voice chat warned, "Lag spike!" and someone else said, "That'd be a good name for a band."

How did your members meet one another?

We met each other on Imladris in the Tarciryan Knights kinship. When we started to get involved with the music side of LOTRO, we picked up any TK member that expressed an interest in helping out. How else are we going to play some of those 8 part songs we created? Heck a few more and we can play full orchestral arrangements!

How would you describe your band's music?

We have a wide variety of musical interests, but our roots are steeped in raid parodies and blatant attacks on the fourth wall. The parodies are usually started as a joke someone says or sings out during some group content, and then one of the arrangers gets started on the music, while our lyricists work their magic crafting the words.

How do you decide which songs to play?

Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock? Well, almost. We usually just start asking each other what we want to play and everyone chips in with a few suggestions.

Do you have a signature song?

There are many that we like, but our signature song probably has to be The Duck Song by Bryant Oden. It is probably our most requested song.

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

Well, this one time at band camp…

Do you have any embarrassing stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

Oh, there are too many to list here, but...

Psallo: Something doesn't sound right...

Iorviel: I think Davco is playing the wrong instrument.

Davco: Look, let's not go putting names to things, alright? Just say, "Something unexpected happened. We don't know exactly what it was, but it's the little mysteries in life that keep things interesting!"...but yeah, I was totally rockin' that lute part with a drum.

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

No regular concert. We like to keep our fans guessing.

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed or links to any performances?

A few older videos from one of our concerts can be found on Psallo's LOTRO Channel

Is there anything else you'd like to mention?

Our amps go to 11...and we don't even have amps!

(Band Leader, Azalea Answers questions)

What's the story behind your band's founding?

We are a band of Hobbit friends, some from Imladris and some from Crickhollow.  Many of us were born on the day Crick and Imladris worlds came to life (in the first minutes, actually), but only the Imladris hobbits played music initially.

We have a long friendship with Durgil Annestel of Quende Nosse kin, and his band, Imladris Sunset.  We have been crafting for each other and playing Durgil's arrangements for years, very happily.  As Imladris Sunset started to play more publicly after migration to Crickhollow we also started playing out, mostly at Elevensies in Michel Delving on Monday nights.

How did your band get its name?

We play many styles, but Especially like dance music--Hard, fast, sweaty, shake everything you got, dance music!  And many of us have flower names, so thus the "Flora" play on "dance floor," if that really has to be explained....(shakes head and thinks of some hobbit boys she knows who wouldn't get it even if with an explanation).

How did your members meet one another?

Several of our members have close friends in Quende Nosse kin, and/or Imladris Sunset band.  Others are friends that the band has met through performances, and who are committed and kind enough to play with us! They are almost always hobbit lasses, though we'll play with anyone who can keep their tail-feathers shaking!

How would you describe your band's music?

Though we play a lot of dance music, we specialize in Hobbit music.  Songs about hobbits, written by hobbits, telling stories of Hobbits (work, love, eating, saving the world, eating, some eating, etc.).

Most of the festival songs we do have lyrics, though in smaller gatherings we don't always sing.  But we do like to sing A LOT.   Mostly about Hobbits. We'll be debuting several new Hobbit songs at Shirefest 2016, including "The Battle of Greenfields."  We're so excited!

How do you decide which songs to play?

All of our songs are original arrangements by Durgil or other band members of Dance Flora or Imladris Sunset.  Several people contribute lyrics, and we have great fun doing it.  We usually try to pick songs for a festival that fit the theme, or that are relatively new and that we REALLY like.  We try not to play the same song at more than one festival, and have not so far, even between both of our bands.

Do you have a signature song?

Great question. We don't yet but might well have one after Shirefest 2016!  There are two that are excellent candidates, based on the tempo and lyrics.

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

Definitely the highlight of our time together has been meeting so many new friends, playing, listening and dancing to great music from other bands. It's also rewarding when someone new to lotro music stumbles onto a dance night somewhere and is visibly shocked by the fun and quality of what they're seeing :D  Often they see the game in a whole, new, social context.

Do you have any stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

HA!  We're hobbits, so every night there is some gefruggledy!  Shasta playing Drum on a Clarinet, Starflower missing getting her part in on time because she was petting a squirrel, me queuing up the wrong song, and there's always a patient audience (mostly), waiting through the silence as we pick up dropped instruments, replace broken strings, or find the right lyrics for the song we're about to play.

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

We play most Monday nights at the Bird & Baby in Michel Delving, with other musicians for the Elevensies dance night.

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed, Youtube channel, or links to any performances?

Nope, not yet.

What's the one thing we should know about your band above all else?

We're here to have fun, and provide good, quality entertainment!  Be patient, and you will be rewarded with some excellent music, and probably some entertaining lyrics!

We also take new song requests for arrangement, and welcome guest song writers!  One of our new debut song lyric was written by someone we met at a dance, and it's sooo lovely!

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your group?

Say Hello when you see us, and let us know what you think!

Interview for No Whole Bard

What's the story behind your band's founding?

After spending some time playing with US based groups, we decided to form our own band so that we would be able to get together and perform at times more suited to us.

How did your band get its name?

We’re a bit of a punny bunch, and so we ended up with something that was a play on words, and music.

How did your members meet one another?

Luincaran and Lasswen met in the womb, then several years later met Esrah in the classroom – so we’ve known each other for a ~few~ decades!

How would you describe your band's music?

Pretty much a bit of ~almost~ everything.  Rock, pop, Celtic, world, orchestral, movie tunes, a fair smattering of Aussie songs, and more!

How do you decide which songs to play?

Each of our monthly concerts has a theme, and the three of us work on whatever songs we would like to play for each theme.  We also have a couple of Mixed Baggins songs each year where we can play songs that don't fit into any other themes.

Do you have a signature song?

There’s probably a few in particular we’re known for, but not one single signature song.

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

Quite possibly the mosh pit and stage diving that occurred at Horrorfest 2014.  Or at Rockfest 2015 when a bunch of people played their air-drums while we had about 5 drummers on stage playing Voodoo Child (Here come the drums!)

Do you have any stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

There was one occasion when we were guests for Les Beaux Chapeaux on Landroval that comes to mind.  We started playing Adele’s Skyfall, but a little way in someone bumped their keyboard and stopped playing.  We restarted, but after a little while again someone went out of music mode.  It seemed like the sky just wasn’t going to fall that day, because even a third attempt resulted in an interruption to a character’s playing.  It was fourth time lucky at least!

Once we had also selected a theme of “TV songs”, which resulted in a concert with the vast majority of songs being 30 seconds to a minute long.  It didn’t leave much time to cue multiple characters ready for the next song and we vowed to never again play a full concert with so many short songs!

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

Every month, the last Sunday for Crickhollow, we play at the Bree-town stage.  Time varies depending on daylight saving around the place, usually it’s 7am /servertime (or 6am during the northern winter).  We also play on Landroval the first Sunday of each month.

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed, You Tube channel, or links to any performances?

We have our site at http://w11.zetaboards.com/No_Whole_Bard/index/ where song files are available, as well as some info on up-coming concerts.  Luincaran https://twitter.com/Luincaran and Lasswen https://twitter.com/AvMists are on Twitter.  There’s some videos on You Tube, most notably the early days of the music system on Esrah’s channel https://www.youtube.com/user/EsrahDarqangel.

The awesome Zedrock has a number of our performances at https://barazine.wordpress.com/tag/no-whole-bard/

What's the one thing we should know about your band above all else?

Be prepared to hear the pibby!

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your group?

Any folks who arrive early for our concerts will likely catch us playing about 20 minutes of sound check/warm-up songs ;)

re: Interview with "The Lollipops"

The Background behind "The Lollipops"

How "The Lollipops" bacame to be is a simple affair, Majika the founder and leader of the band started playing LOTRO about 3-4 years ago, after about 6 months he come accross the music system within the game and was instantly hooked on playing music,so for a further 12 months or so he played solo songs which he aquired from various sites then was introduced to the "Second Breakfast" kinship and in the short time he was with them became to realise he could actually take his new found love of the ingame music system further than he could imagine, actually transcribing the music himself from midi files, he looked into it and found he was actually not too bad at doing this, so he created 2 more accounts to transcribe 3 part songs. From there the band just gained in size and the song repitoir grew.

The name "The Lollipops" came from Majika playing oldies songs, and he wanted a fun name with a hint of old skool behind it. taking into account the costumes ingame etc he came up with "The Lollipops" because it did sound fun , coupled with the outfits he was wearing at the time, deemed it to be a good choice.

The Lollipops is basically a 1 man band with Majika at the forfront, that said there are numerous people around Crickhollow and Landroval who also have Majikas numerous songs, and occasionly are part of shows , concerts etc that The Lollipops perform.

As has already been mentioned The Lollipops started of playing oldies songs such as "My girl Lollipop" for obvious reasons. but over the last couple of years the song list of the The Lollipops as grown and now they play various types of music ranging from the 50s 60s right upto the latest Pop / Rock / Dance / Reggae / and so on, there is no limit to the music that The Lollipops play as Majika has always had a fond love of music.

The Lollipops tend to just pop up out of nowhere and start playing, usually in the Three Farrows Craft Hall in Bree town or outside the Prancing Pony also in Bree town, but could be playing anywhere that takes there fancy at the time.

The Lollipops has recently started a you-tube channel which can be found here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC136wKH1L4txiMZJ7BWZRkQ

All the music that Majika / The Lollipops play is transcribed by Majika unless songs are requested and they have to dive into the many other songs created by other performers.

The Lollipops aim is to bring joy and cheer to all around them and therfor hope that you all enjoy listening to thier music as much as they enjoy playing it.

re: The Michel Delving Bunny Watch

0

What's the story behind your band's founding?

I wanted a band outside of Les Beaux Chapeaux so I could perform more often on a whim!

How did your band get its name?

Fincin decided to have a group of her very own Watchers like they have in Bree. She wanted to challenge the authority of the head justice in Bree on Landroval. I later decided it would make for a good band name as well and now have the Michel Delving Bunny Watch on Landroval, Crickhollow, and Belegaer.

How did your members meet one another?

I met myself a very very long time ago! :P I am normally the only member of the Bunny Watch. The other seven are alts.
Pinoh, a member of Les Beaux Chapeaux will join me with a few alts she has in the Bunny Watch on Crickhollow. I met Pinoh when she still played with RKO of Landroval.

How would you describe your band's music?

Well, I would like to think its good and with variety.

How do you decide which songs to play?

For the most part, I just play music that I have enjoyed over the years providing I can find a decent midi since I transcribe all my own songs. I often will take requests as well, again, providing I can find a decent midi and the song will actually work in game.

Do you have a signature song?

  No

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

Whenever I can make someone happy with a song I play

Do you have any stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

Yes, but those stories are my own. To tell them would drag others names through the mud and I do not wish to do that :)

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

On Landroval, we play every other week as Les Beaux Chapeaux. On Crickhollow I play at Bread and Jam on occasion and on Belegaer I am new so no regular shows there.

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed, Youtube channel, or links to any performances?

We have a website where we do share songs at http://w11.zetaboards.com/LesBeauxChapeaux/forum/4217289/
If you search for Les Beaux Chapeaux on youtube, we do have a few shows posted by others but nothing we do ourselves.

What's the one thing we should know about your band above all else?

  Bunnys!!!!

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your group?

The only thing to tell really is that I love music, love making songs for lotro and playing them in game. I love to watch others do the same :)

Hiyas everybody I'm Rhym ( Rhyms ) Band Leader of the Misty Mountain Hobbs

How my band got started ?

I have been playing LOTRO since the day game launched, so 9+ years and I've been playin music for most of it. So I started on the Gladden server in a nice Kinship and of course things change over time and we moved to Riddermark when it opened for some space. There were not many people playing music back then, and it was fun to entertain folks ( it still is ) So me and some friends would download Fatlute tunes and we had fun with it. Years passed and those friends moved on,  some folks had interest, but most friends and kinmates wanted to hunt and chase loot and levels not play music :(

So Few years ago I decided to try two-boxing ( playing on 2 puters - 2 different toons at once ) to make better music then I could alone. This grew into more toons and now I use five ... I can bring up 10 or so , but I like 5 :)

How did your members meet one another?

N/A they are all me :)

How would you describe your band's music?

I play anything I think will sound good in our game ... and I mean anything from Benny Goodman to Stained ...  I have become friends with ALOT of bands the last year or so and we all try and find something noone else has heard .... so it could be anything but it has to be good or I play it once and never again :)

How do you decide which songs to play?

Ahh the question ..... a few things make me decide,  Do I really like it or is it just ok ? ... does it make me tap my foot ? ... so I forgot to Que-up the next song because I'm too busy listening to it ... Will people remember the song and request it ? ..... For me, I always ask " is this worth listening to if I was not playing the game ? " I think that's the best measure. ( I Listen to my ABC.s out of the game all time :) )

Do you have a signature song?

I do ... and I end every show/jam/concert with it ... and all the folks who know me, know the song ... " We're an American Band "   although , as a Hobbit, I'm not quite sure were America is .... probably far to the east I would guess.

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

Playing Round-Robin with other bands ... I LOVE the Bread and Jam. Being invited to play at Winterfest was an honor,, being invited as a feature guest to some concerts is also a great honor ... The highlight for me is players in the game really loving what I play ... it means everything to me. when someone says " I love this song " really does it for me.

Do you have any stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

umm, the time I played 2 tunes in a row at a concert, the wrong versions without the vocal tracks ... another time I spelled Twynk's name wrong like 10 times in a row introducing her ( was on my 4-5th beer ) lol .... it's all good, just a game :D

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

I am not playing quite as much nowdays, so about the only steady Gig is the Bread and Jam, I do get asked to join concerts every once in awhile, but have a hard time committing without alot of notice ( real life suks )

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed, Youtube channel, or links to any performances?

No, but one day I will make a video to show people what I do in " that game " lol

What's the one thing we should know about your band above all else?

It's always about the Music ... about having fun ... My band is intended to make me and others smile and feel something , above anything else I will always try and play good stuff and respect the music :)

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your group?

I have met some of the coolest people since moving to Crickhollow, alot of people have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome and a part of the great music community. It is truly an honor to be among such people. I will always appreciate my acceptance and am grateful for all the friends I have made from it.

What's the story behind your band's founding?

Sionnachwynn: "My brother Alpinson used to play music with Garretson and Mintoadoc. I'd sit and listen for hours. When Alpinson left to go adventuring, I lifted his lute before he left. Gee, I hope he got a new one somewhere, hmm. Anywho, after that I started playing with Garret and Minto. The rest is history, as they say."

(OOC- I wanted to create some ABC files of bluegrass songs to share. I found the best way to test them was by creating some alt accounts. And the band was born.)

How did your band get its name?

Sionnachwynn: "We heard stories of this pony..."

Garretson: "Horse, Sionnach, he said it was a horse."

Sionnachwynn: "Horse, pony, whatever. Anywho, we heard stories of this dapple gray horse named Firefoot. A horse of Rohan! Isn't that a wonderful name? The bluegrass band part is, uh, what we are."

How did your members meet one another?

Sionnachwynn: "Well, as I said, Garret and Minto played with my brother Alpin. They studied to be minstrels together."

Garretson: "She studied to be a burglar. That's how she was able to lift Alpin's lute. heh."

How would you describe your band's music?

Sionnachwynn: "Bluegrass-like?" *laughter from the band* "We have done some songs that aren't Bluegrass but that is our favorite genre currently. And it's in the name of the band. Kinda stuck with it, ya?"

How do you decide which songs to play?

Garretson: "Mostly we try to play songs we haven't played before. We still have a few we've learned and not played. And some we are still working on."

(OOC - Quite true. I try to play songs I haven't played yet. Some weeks my time for new transcriptions is very limited or none, due to work. I've still a few songs that I haven't played yet but I need to get some free time to get more songs transcribed.)

Do you have a signature song?

Sionnachwynn: "I'm not sure we've played enough to have a signature song but Foggy Mountain Breakdown is one of our favorites."

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

Sionnachwynn: "Oh, wow. Um. When we first came to Bread and Jam we were real nervous. We had heard of all of the bands there and playing for them was a big thrill. But I think the big highlights so far are playing for Muddy Foot Day and now Shirefest. It's a real honor for us to play on the same stage as these awesome bands."

Do you have any stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

Sionnachwynn: "Well, there was this time when the boys both played the wrong song..."   *raised eyebrows from Garret and Minto*

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

Garretson: "We try to get to Bread and Jam every Friday. Lately we've been busy with farming and festivals but we're itching to get back to the Pony in Bree. We are also working on putting together a special concert we are tentatively calling 'The Rooftop Concert'. Further details to come but it's top secret for now."

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed, Youtube channel, or links to any performances?

Sionnachwynn: "A what???"

Garretson: "I heard web. Something to do with spiders?"

(OOC - I have a youtube channel that was originally used for sharing videos of my pet rats. I put a cople 'early FBB' videos on there and when time allows will be putting some new ones there. This time with Sionnach. And I uploaded a new band picture here on the forums, this one with Sionnach in it.)

What's the one thing we should know about your band above all else?

Garretson: "We hope you enjoy our music."

Sionnachwynn: "And we like feedback. Constructive feedback is best but hey, beggars can't be choosy, ya?"

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your group?

Sionnachwynn: "You need more???" *silent stares from the band*

(OOC - I broke something on the forums while doing this. There are weird lines. sigh *smacks head with palm of hand*)

re: Savo 'Lass

0

What's the story behind your band's founding?

It started with Tolo Imladris, I think. The Elvish themed RP music and dance event in Imladris. Myself, Laaleth, and Beliaveil formed a small trio called Neled Lind Eledhrim, or Three Beautiful Elves, in the westron tongue. Not too long after that, two of our dear friends Herumacil and Halgoreth began showing interest in the band, to the point where we decided one night that we would form a new band called Savo 'Lass!

How did your band get its name?

We were discussing potential band names about a week ago, and Laaleth suggested Savo 'Lass, which is Elvish for Have Joy. We all agreed that it was a good choice! There were a few other suggestions as well, but Savo 'Lass was the most popular among us.

How did your members meet one another?

Ah, an excellent question. Of the five members of Savo 'Lass, four of us are in Second Breakfast, and that is how we all met and know one another. Herumacil is a dear friend of ours who is not in Second Breakfast, but a most treasured member of Savo 'Lass. I met Herumacil at Elvenses one Monday night several months ago, but I cannot say the same for the others.

How would you describe your band's music?

Savo 'Lass enjoys playing jazz arrangements as well as big band and swing arrangements. We also play beautiful music that can be sad, soothing, and enchanting.

How do you decide which songs to play?

Since we have not yet only played at Tolo Imladris, we have not really had a system for choosing songs. Currently, I have a playlist made for our Winterfest portion, consisting of 17 songs, the combined times of which are a little under an hour. I plan to show my friends and get their opinions before anything is final. I do some of the deciding on my own, but I always ask my friends for suggestions and feedback.

Do you have a signature song?

I cannot say for certain just yet...however, I personally adore a song that we play called "Illusion"

What's the highlight of your band's time together?

We have not spent much time together as of yet, but all of the time we have spent together has been memorable. I love playing with Laaleth, Beliaveil, Herumacil, and Halgoreth.

Do you have any stories about a time when things didn't go so well?

Nothing has happened as of yet that I would consider not so well.

Does your band play a regular concert? If so, when and where?

No, but it may be possible that we do in the future.

Does your band have a website, Twitter feed, Youtube channel, or links to any performances?

 Not as of yet.

What's the one thing we should know about your band above all else?

Savo 'Lass means have joy, and that is exactly what we want everyone to have!

Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about your group?

Our hope is to create a joyous atmosphere when we play our songs. We hope to delight the free peoples of all races, be they Elves, Men, Hobbits, Dwarves, or Beorning.

I just wanted to update the info for Savo 'Lass as it's a bit old.

Our current roster includes myself, Laaleth, Halgoreth, Beliaveil, and Celthanesta.

We now have a website at http://savolass.gamerlaunch.com/

Thanks!
