Cyndi Lauper had a Huge hit with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", and yeah, since I'm saying that here in this thread, you know it, it's a Cover Song.  Cyndi's version will always be THE version, but here's the Original version, so you have a reference point.

You may know the cover more than the 1986 original.  Ace of Base turned the song around, several times, with their 1992 interpretation.  Here's both!  Equally awesome in their own ways.

Here's one, where you may not have heard the original, because the cover eclipsed it by far.  The Oak Ridge Boys had a huge hit with the song Elvira.  (not the Mistress of the Dark).  Anyhows, here's the original version, from 1965.  Listen-only video, of course.

Going back to the vault a bit for this one.  In 1968, the Beatles released The White Album.  In 1984, one of those songs was covered, twisted, darkened, and remade beautiful.

 

Siouxsie and The Banshees - Dear Prudence

A year ago, The Metallica Blacklist was released, containing covers of Metallica songs from the Black album.  I like this one the best, definitely made the song better in my humble opinion.

I love this cover!  It's one of those covers where the covering band takes the original song, and totally makes it their song.  You can hear the original in there, somewhere, but the cover as a whole, is a new and unique song.  To be honest, this is one where I love the cover more than the original by R.E.M.

This post is going to be a "two-for", the same band doing the covering, two different awesome songs from two bands I love.  Listen-only, from just a few years back.  The songs are very much the original versions, but with a slight little tweak that infuses the sound of the covering band, so that, you hear both.  First one's by The Cure, second by Ministry.
